What to Know About Kwara State Polytechnic

Kwara State Polytechnic is a Nigerian tertiary institution that was established in 1973 by the then Military Governor of Kwara State Col. David Bamigboye after the decision of establishing a polytechnic in Kwara State was announced in 1971. It is located in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.

Kwara State Polytechnic started with 110 pioneering students, and it offers National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in courses at undergraduate levels.

The College eventually came into existence following the promulgation of Kwara State Edict no. 4 of 1972 (now overtaken by the edict no. 21 of 1984 edict No. 13 of 1987 and edict no. 7 of 1994) as a body empowered by statute “to provide for studies, training, research and development of techniques in arts and language, applied sciences, engineering, management and commerce, education and well as in other spheres of learning”.

The Kwara State Polytechnic formally commenced operation in January 1973 with a piece of administrative machinery patterned closely after the existing universities in the country.

The process to Check KWARAPOLY Admission List

1. Go to Kwara State Poly admission portal at https://portal.kwarastatepolytechnic.edu.ng/prestud_login.php.
2. Enter your JAMB Registration Number and Password in the required columns.
3. Finally, click on the Login button to access your Kwara State Poly admission status.

Successfully admitted ND candidates are advised to go on the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) portal to ACCEPT or REJECT their admission offer –  How to Reject/Accept Your Admission on JAMB CAPS.

Failure to pay the acceptance fee after one week of this admission would lead to forfeiture of the admission

Oh yes! You can switch from Polytechnic to University. What you need to do is finish your ND 2 or HND 2, get the JAMB Direct Entry form and get your school of choice direct entry form. It’s that simple.

Is HND a bachelor’s degree?

No, it isn’t. HND is Higher National Diploma (HND), but it is usually considered equivalent to Bachelor’s Degree (B.Sc)

Is HND a good qualification?

Yes it’s a good qualification, but hey why settle for that when you can get your Master’s Degree.

Is Polytechnic a good choice?

Yes in Nigeria, it is a good choice. But if you still want a university degree, after your two years in Polytechnic, you can apply for direct entry admission into any University of your choice. In most cases, you can start in 200 level.

Also if you want to get your masters, you can finish your Programme in Polytechnic, get your NYSC certificate, apply for PGD in a Nigerian University and then apply for Masters.
